Are You Making Progress?

Matthew Kelly and I are on the same page this year.  His book, Perfectly Yourself, dovetails nicely with the objectives of the Healthy People, Healthy Parish program.  By making changes that allow us to become “better” in some way, we improve the health of the parish by improving the health of the people, one person at a time.

At the heart of the matter is the age-old question.  Why is it so difficult to change?  To transform resolutions into habits?  Kelly states that life is about becoming.  Rather, life lived now in this present moment is about being.  The art of change is about becoming all that you are capable of being.

This year, I want to take a chapter of Kelly’s book each month and apply it specifically to health issues.  To use it as a guide to make change happen – from what I am to what I want to be.  Using what Kelly wrote, I made a resolution for a healthy change this year.

My Resolution for Change and What I Will Do to Change

Where I Am Now, Where I Want to Be,

How I Will Know When I Get There, and

How I Will Celebrate the Journey

I want to improve this one area of my life.

(eat more healthily and lose some weight)

I am ________________________________.

(28 pounds heavier than my ideal weight)

I want to be __________________________.

(at my ideal weight of 110 pounds)

In order to be _________________________

                      (110 pounds)

I will _______________________________.

         (eat lower fat meals)

To measure my progress, I will ___________.

(conduct a daily examen and weigh weekly)

To celebrate my progress, I will __________.

(save $5 weekly and plan a day trip for the day I reach my goal)

What New Year’s Resolution did you make?  Chapter 1 of Kelly’s book include useful information about how to make changes.  Read his tips on applying first lesson of the chapter, then make your own resolution using this worksheet.  Next week, we’ll check our progress and proceed from there.
