Music Ministry
The Choir at St. Peter leads congregational singing at the 10:00 am Mass on Sundays from Labor Day weekend through Pentecost, as well as during other primary liturgies, (e.g. Christmas Eve, Holy Week) throughout the year. In addition, smaller vocal ensembles support congregational singing at the 5:00 pm Saturday Masses during this period. The Resurrection Choir leads congregational singing during funeral Masses and services.
We are looking for singers to join the Choir on either a regular or seasonal basis. If you are unable to commit to joining us every week, we would be delighted to expand our ranks of singers for particular feasts such as Christmas and Easter. The Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 in the church choir loft.
Do you play a musical instrument? We would be delighted to find an opportunity for you to share your talents as we worship our Lord at Mass. We will work with you to arrange a time frequency that you are comfortable with, from playing every week to once-and-done.
Cantors guide the congregation during Masses and other liturgies throughout the year. As such, they must have a clear voice, be able to read music, and understand the liturgy. Cantors are auditioned, and training is provided. We are particularly in need of cantors willing to serve at the 7am Sunday Mass.
Anyone high school age and older is welcome to sing in the Choir or to be auditioned and trained as a cantor.
Parents, are you interested in finding opportunities for your young children to be involved with music ministry at St. Peter’s? We are excited to announce that the children of the parish (ages 5-11) will have the opportunity to sing at this year’s Christmas Day Mass. For parents whose older children and teens (ages 12-18) are interested in becoming involved with music ministry, we are excited to announce that the youth of the parish are invited to provide music at occasional seasonal Masses and Benedictions.
If you are interested in being involved in music ministry in any capacity, please contact the Director of Music Ministry, Kate Winker for more information, rehearsal schedules, and auditions. Please consider being a part of the Saint Peter music ministry. Greater numbers not only result in lighter work, they add fullness and flexibility to that work and enhance our liturgies.
