ExerStart is a 20-week, low-intensity exercise class designed to improve balance, flexibility, strength and mobility for sedentary adults who want to increase their fitness level. Classes last 45 minutes and meet 2 times a week for 20 weeks. For people who are inactive, even small increases in physical activity are associated with health benefits.
Benefits of the program include and improved ability to perform activities of daily living; improved mood and memory, and the good, clean fun that happens when a group of Catholic adults come together to get fit.
You’ll learn how to perform 43 different exercises that can all be done at home. Each exercise will be described and demonstrated. With each exercise you’ll learn the benefits of the exercise and how these benefits translate into your daily functioning. They include warm-up exercises, aerobic endurance exercises, resistance training exercises, and cool-down exercises.
In addition, we’ll laugh, talk, socialize, and share with one another. Our common goal - to be eternally fit, and to be fit for eternity.
We will be offering this program next year 2017 and plan to have two different sessions, one in the first half of the year and another in the latter half of the year. Before and after the course, your fitness level will be measured using six different timed exercises.
Why Bother Starting to Exercise?
Regular physical activity can improve the health and quality of life of Americans of all ages, regardless of the presence of a chronic disease or disability. Among adults and older adults, physical activity can lower the risk of early death, coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, breast and colon cancer, falls, and depression.
