Deacon Dialogue: Mission to Nicaragua Needs Your Support
On Ash Wednesday when we receive ashes on our foreheads, we will hear the words: “Repent and believe in the Gospel.” To make positive changes in our lives and to believe in the Gospel causes us to act. As we discern to make this Lent better than our last one, a good question to ask ourselves is: How charitable we are? One way to discern an answer to the question is to review the Corporal Works of Mercy: to feed the poor, to give drink to the thirsty, to clothe the naked, and to give shelter to travelers.
In 2014 it was this call that our parish answered by making the commitment to serve the people of Nicaragua. In addition to our mission trips in 2015 and 2017, we have continued to provide funds to support a lunch program for the children of San Marcos and more recently, to support a home for young women in Blue Fields. Both are managed by the Carmelite nuns.
We have only been able to do this through your generosity for which we are truly grateful. In the past our major fund raiser for the mission fund was a trivia night. This year we are not able to host a trivia night, so this week you will find a special donation envelope in the pews for the missions. You can also make a donation online through the WeShare program. As always, another way to make a donation is by committing to pray for our mission.
Peace & Joy,
