EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL Launched in the Archdiocese of St. Louis
To nurture devotion to the Real Presence in the Eucharist
The Mission of the Eucharistic Revival is, “To renew the Church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.” The Revival was launched here in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, and in dioceses throughout the United States, on June 19th, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi.
What is the Eucharistic Revival?
The Bishops of the United States are calling for a three-year grassroots revival of devotion and belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. They believe that God wants to see a movement of Catholics across the United States, healed, converted, formed, and unified by an encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist—and sent out in mission “for the life of the world.”
These three years will culminate in the first National Eucharistic Congress in the United States in almost fifty years. Almost a hundred thousand Catholics will join together in Indianapolis for a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage toward the “source and summit” of our Catholic faith.
The Eucharistic Revival stands on Five Strategic Pillars:
1. Encounter: Foster encounters with Jesus through kerygmatic proclamation and experiences of Eucharistic devotion.
2. Contemplate: Contemplate and proclaim the doctrine of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist through the
A. Truth of our teaching,
B. Beauty of our worship, and
C. Goodness of our accompaniment of persons in poverty and those who are vulnerable.
3. Empower: Empower grassroots creativity by partnering with movements, apostolates, parishes, and educational institutions.
4. Reach: Reach the smallest unit: parish groups and families.
5. Embrace: Embrace all and learn from the various intercultural Eucharistic traditions.
What does this mean in St. Louis?
Throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis, we are in the beginning stages of an initiative led by Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski and driven by the Church’s universal mission to evangelize. The mission of evangelization will define what this archdiocese looks like for the next 50 to 100 years.
This process will touch every Catholic within the archdiocese and will be symmetric with the St. Louis All Things New Initiative, and globally to the two-year Synodal journey desired by Pope Francis, and nationally the three-year Eucharist Revival focused on the power of the Eucharist.
1. Synod 2021 / 2023
For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission
A two-year spiritual process oriented toward discernment, giving everyone a voice in evangelizing Jesus Christ, culminating in the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome on October 2023.
2. Eucharistic Revival: My Flesh of the Life of the World
Created Anew by the Body and Blood of Christ, Source of our Healing and Hope
A three-year National Eucharistic Revival Initiative aimed to renew the Church by promoting a deeper devotion for the Eucharist.
3. All Things New: Steadfast in Faith, Forward in Hope
A strategic planning effort that will assess our ministries, structures, and effectiveness, leading to a radical change to our approach for evangelizing and reaching the people of the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
Let us keep our minds and hearts turned toward Jesus, Who said, "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world" (John 6:51).
Sincerely yours in Jesus,
Fr. John Seper
